Methodology

Every number on PalBreeder traces back to the game files or to a clearly labelled model. This page explains how.

Last updated

Data source

Pal stats, breeding power and the complete combination table come from PalCalc, which extracts them from the Palworld game files. Current snapshot: 299 Pals, 44,849 combinations, 115 passive skills, data dated 2026-09-11. Raw JSON: pals, combos, passives.

Breeding results

The combo table is looked up directly, so results match the game, including the unique-combination overrides and the gender-dependent Katress and Wixen pair. The "parent average" shown in the calculator is floor((power A + power B + 1) / 2).

Path finder

The path finder computes which Pals are reachable from the Pals you own, then picks, for each Pal, the recipe that adds the fewest new breedings, assuming a bred Pal can be reused as a parent. It is a strong heuristic and not a proof of the absolute minimum.

Passive and IV odds (estimates)

Odds use PalCalc's community-tested model: the game rolls how many parent passives to inherit (weights 4:3:2:1 for 1 to 4), picks them from the de-duplicated pool of both parents, then may add random passives (weights 4:3:2:1 for 0 to 3). IV inheritance uses weights 3:2:1 for 1 to 3 stats. The game does not publish these odds, so treat them as estimates. Our implementation reproduces PalCalc's own test cases.

Mutations

There is no official mutation chance, so PalBreeder does not invent one and labels community estimates as unverified. See Mutations for what is confirmed.

Tier lists

Tiers are generated from base stats by percentile (top 5% is S, next 15% A, then 30%, 30%, 20%). They are not a meta ranking.
